Shells on the beach

Hello to everyone back home, we have had some fabulous weather, at one point in the truck today it registered 88 degrees F or 31 C, so nice.
Anyway we took a drive today to the other side of Old Kino to what I will call a spit, Isobell knew of a beach where we could find some shells.
Along the way we came across a spot where a truck must have lost a bit of his load of conch shells, we should have picked some up, they were beautiful.

The Osprey will gather anything possible to make their nests, there were nests on most of the power poles, can you see the little head peeking out but look at all the garbage they have in there.

This fellow posed for me.
The beach was beautiful and went on for miles, here we are looking back down the beach and you can see Bahia de Kino in the background, if you wanted to you could walk the miles of beach back to town.

Now our beach has shells and we gather a few nice ones that we find but this beach was a mass of shells, we laughed at how hard we had looked at home and here they were everywhere.

I think this is an old dead jellyfish but not absolutely certain.

Look at that beach just covered, everywhere you walked.

We went over to the otherside of the spit and here it was more evident the tide was out but the boats are not in good shape, the boat on the left is an old Polica Federale.  The mass in the front if the picture is an old rotten keel as they are just left there to rot.

The locals are very religious and you will see shrine everywhere, here is one made with hundreds of shells.

On our way back into Kino we went via a very poor part of town and it was so sad for us to see how they live, but one must remember they are happy.
We also found a few buzzards or vultures, whatever.

We went off to the supermarket to pick up a few things and had a little fun with a couple young boys practicing their English, met a nice couple from Utah.  Off to dinner, Ron had stuffed fish, it was stuffed with shrimp, crab and octopus, I had Cameron Bacanaro, which was an excellent shrimp dish made with Tequila, and of course the famous margaritas.  Great day.

Miguel Aleman

Today after exercise class and line dance practice we decided to go into a Miguel Aleman a little town about 25 miles east of Kino Bay.
The main street had many open face shops on one side of the street and eating places on the other.  Ron bought himself a new hat, 80 pesos.

I like how they displayed the soccer balls.
We did some grocery shopping in a Sante Fe grocery store, they had a lot of American items as well as Mexican, a fresh bakery and nice deli.
After our shopping we headed back to Kino Bay and went to La Palapa Pescador for dinner.
Isabelle and Lucille

Here is our whole crew, starting from the left front moving clockwise is Rienk, Lona, Elaine, Ron, Isabelle, Doug, Allen and Lucille. Most of us had a shrimp dinner either garlic, Bay Style or Devils, all were excellent and the margaritas and cerveza went down easy

This is the beach just outside the restaurant, very lovely
The sky entertained us during dinner, pictures hardly do it justice though

Midway through dinner it turned from orange to an unbelievable red that I could not quite capture.

Spending our idle time

The last couple days in Kino Bay have been cooler and windy but we have made the best of it.
Ron and I have been walking the beach, it is usually very private with not a sole to see except someone driving.

We have an on going bongo ball tournament going on, I am not to tell you what spot Isabelle and Ron are in.

Ron and Doug
 Lucille and Marmaduke

Yesterday Ron and I got prepared for a long walk way down to Christmas point and set off at 920am, wind was a little better and it was a little warmer out. Just got down to the beach and this pelican greeted us.
Found a jelly fish up on the shore.
We were prepared, left keys and a radio with the neighbors in case we had problems they could come get us but about three quarters of a mile out we realize we have lost our radio and had to turn back.  Ron found it almost back to the coach, oh well we start off again half an hour later.  Here comes Ron back down the beach.

Ron having a rest, very little driftwood here, as you can guess very few trees.
Some fishermen must have been down and made themselves a little shelter, left behind a few traps and the sand was taking over.
We walked for two more hours and got to the point and knew we had to turn around as we would never get back.  On the return I caught a heron on top of the cactus, always amazes me how they can stand up there.

We also found a skull with some very large teeth, Ron thought it might be that of a seal or sea lion.
 We also found a sailboat.
We tried to sail it but the wind kept flipping it over and over.
We were gone a total of five hours and were very tired when we got back.  Had a good shower and then went off to potluck at the clubhouse.  Today we are going into town and out for supper, oh sounds good.  Weather has improved and guess what no wind today.

A day in the life at Bahia de Kino

Now after the resort in Mesa this park is very different but beautiful in its own way.
Close your eyes and hear solitude and at night the sky is so dark with absolutely no lights that the stars shine so bright.
As you can tell in the picture the terrain is rough but we are not jammed in like many parks as there are a total of nine units in the park and three work here.  The road getting here used to take a couple hours with a rig but now the 10 miles go quickly on the paved highway.

Yesterday was very windy which made it feel quite cool but we gathered as a group and went out to clean up the golf course so we could use it. There are free clubs, balls and tees just have to find the course, it could be a challenge.

Can you see the flag in the 7th hole, yes that is it over by the elephant tree.

Our flower garden is an array of whale bones and turtle shells.

Just another picture of our view.

The veggie man comes to the park every Saturday and what a nice surprise, he has everything, fruit, veggies and even peanuts, all that looked so good and so cheap.
Here is just a little of his selection
After lunch today we decided to go into town to look around and have an early dinner.
Here are Alan, Lucille, Rienk and Lona out on the pier.

Looking east up the beach, we watched an open flat fishing boat about 20 feet come in, he just gunned the engine and flew halfway up the beach, it was so funny.
Looking west back toward New Kino
A shrimp boat was coming in
We figured this was the anti theft devise, they removed the propeller so it was not much good to anyone.
Dinner was at Jorges and it was delicious, I had Shrimp wrapped in bacon and cheese in a cream sauce, oh so yummy, Ron had a fish special with lots of onions, peppers etc.  Some had these big huge lime margaritas but Elaine had a tamarind margarita and it was so tasty and grande.  We had to come home and look up tamarind, everyone should it is interesting for sure.
It was a fun day but when we got home right at sunset everyone was exhausted, so another early night

Our home in Mexico

 Our first day in Mexico.
This is the clubhouse.
The pool and the hot tub is to the right(not in sight)
The pool is being fixed today as the heater went, should be ready in a couple days.

Looking down the ravine just in front of our coach toward the ocean
Looking one way down the beach
And then the other, you can see a truck had been out driving along

Rienk and Lona picking up shells

 Isabelle and Marmaduke
I found me a buzzard perched on a cactus.
The park had a social hour last night so we met a few of the others from in the park and around the surrounding area, good time was had by all.
