Day 2 in Malagash

This morning Ron and I washed the coach, took us all morning, dad says "Serves you right for buying such a big one", oh well it should be clean for our ride to Newfoundland on the 10th.
After lunch we took the folks and went to see the Malagash Salt Mine Museum, it was very little but kinda interesting, we watched a 7 minute video that was taken in 1949 when they were still working the mine. This one shut down in 1959 but there is still an operating saltmine just a few miles away in Pugwash.
The first picture is the men getting lowered into the mine.

The next shot is all the buildings that used to be there, today the only one remaining is the Union Hall which is where the museum is located.

It is completely closed off today but sure would have been fun to go down into. The Pugwash mine mines for Windsor salt, back in the day of the Malagash mine the salt went to fisheries to keep the fish frozen, to make certain metals and rubber.

After leaving here we drove past the Jost Winery looked really nice with all the grape vines, there does not seem to be much growing in this part of the coastline, gardens vary from just being planted to corn a foot high, most of the pasture lands seem to have gone wild.

I had seen a sign off the little road to the campground that said " Historic Shipyard Island" so since we did not have much to do I suggested we go see, but found absolutely nothing but another sign that said the same thing, really has me puzzled. Oh well.
Spend the rest of the afternoon sitting in the sun reading a book, love the down time.
