Fredericton

Thursday brought a day of rain so except for a quick Walmart stop and an even briefer stop at the local casino we hid inside and stayed dry.
Yesterday was beautiful again so off to Fredericton to see the Queen.....oh no not the Queen....I meant the Lieutenant Governor Mr. Graydon Nicholas.

First stop was city hall where the tourist information booth was. It looked like the best way to see downtown was a walk so off we went, so much construction but that is progress.

The city has a very long walking path all along the Saint John River and it is known as the green, the lighthouse is called The Lighthouse on the green.

The Legislature building was under construction so no tour there.

We went over to the Christ Church Cathederal and it was very beautiful but my pictures were awful so you will have to just believe me.

Next stop was the Lieutenat Governors house called the Old Government House, it was built in 1826 but only restored in 1997-1999 at a price of 5.5 millon dollars. They put everything back to original shape and it is certainly beautiful, the walls both inside and out are 2.5 feet thick of the sandstone.

We had a personal tour as tourist season is certainly down and we really enjoyed our young guide. The only part we did not see was the third floor as that is the actual home of Graydon Nicholas.
We had a little fellow entertaining us, isn't he cute.

Here is one of the rooms on the second floor.

Remeber our trip in St. Andrews to Mr. VanHornes home, well here is one of his paintings as well as being a railway builder he liked to paint. I took the picture because it is actually the home that we visited, this is the barn and the revernd's home.

We try to take lots of back roads, and on the way home we went through Nackawic, whose claim to fame is the Worlds largest axe, we were wondering if it would beat Paul Bunyons and decided it did.
