Prime Berth and the Beothock Center

Just a quick one this morning as we are out the door and I am behind schedule.

Our first stop was the Prime Berth, the name refelects the perect spot in a community to put the cod trap. We had a wonderful tour guide who told us all about the cod industry of past and present. It was a great way to introduce Curtis and Tanya to the fishing industry.

The skeleton of the Sei whale is just new, it was found a ways away and dragged here and cleaned. It was so interesting to see the baleen, which is how they eat.

He showed us how they make cod liver oil and dry the fish.

Then it was off to see the display on the Beothock Indians, perhaps a little to deep for Curtis but quite intersting just the same. They became extinct in the late 1820's.
