Gander to Twillingate

It was cloudy and drizzly when we left Gander but that tapered out as we approached Twillingate. We are parked at Peyton Woods RV park for the next week, so we have lots of time to explore this very interesting area.

We just took a small drive before dinner to find the tourist information and found a small one in this building, must go back about 14 km to do the larger one.

As we were leaving the information center this large long liner was leaving the port, when we were out at Long Point we watched the same boat going out to sea.

The lighthouse is unfortunately under construction but there is a wonderful viewpoint from here, no iceberg and no whales.

After dinner Ron and I thought we should walk down to the little fishing pier by our campground and we met a couple that suggested if we were in good enough shape we should climb the mountain just beyond the pier to get the most fantastic view, so we did.

It was an easy climb and the view was wonderful, we could see 360 degrees.

Got down just in time to watch the sun set.

On the way home we came across this old boat.

and this family home, they talk alot about the resettlement of people here in Newfoundland.
The government did not want to be responsible for services to little communties on off shore islands, so the people were made to uproot and come into town.

  1. We enjoyed a dinner theater there, it was priceless, I hope they are still doing it. It is a few miles further than your campground done by out of work cod fishermen. Hope you can get to see it.
