Cape Ray, Cheeseman and Port aux Basques

Hello there everyone, well today was another foggy day, not so much here in the Codroy Valley but we headed back toward Port aux Basques and it was thick in town.
Our first turn off the road was to Cape Ray, the homes were perched all over the rocky hills and they were of every different color, it was fun to see.

The surf is much bigger today which made the shoreline quite impressive.

At this spot the rocks were so flat on top as if someone had made them that way.

Hard to see the lighthouse but you could not miss the foghorn, it is automatic and the more foggy it is the more it goes off, so today it was very often. There was a little museum here about the people of the area and a craft store next door, you should see the winter mittens, they are so thick with wool, oh they would be warm.

A lot of the original buildings are gone but we walked down to the shore, no wonder they needed a light house.

From here we went to the Cheeseman Provincial Park to have a look around and found an ugly campground but a beautiful beach. The old railway bed used to go right through the park and is today the new Trans Canada Trail, here being used alot by the ATVers.

The beach was lovely and I am sure if the sun was shining it would be a fun place to spend some time.

After that stop we went into Port aux Basques to do a few chores and look around, well it was very hard to see much because the fog was thick but we just about drove all of the city and it is built all over due to rocks and water.
We stopped at the Railway Museum and looked at the astrolab, which two are in the museum and the only other in the world is in New York. It was an old navigational tool used by early sailors, they were discovered off the southern coast of Newfoundland.

Back at home, did a good walk after supper.
