This morning was Fort Levis. Fort Levis was the first of three forts built on the south side of the St. Lawrence across from Quebec City to defend it from the Americans. It was also another of the forts that never had to be used to defend us.
The fort is quite small in comparison to what we have been in but was also different from what we had seen before.
The bridge going into the fort was a first, a rolling bridge, when the enemy was coming it could just be rolled inside the fort, doors closed and the enemy could not cross the 5 meter ditch.

We had a very nice young lady for a guide who certainly knew her history facts, we were the only two people on her tour so we had her undivided attention. She had time to show us little details in the Powder Magazine Room as well as the caponiers which are the areas where the cannons sat protected ready to fire at the enemy.

No matter how many forts we see, they have always been a little different and Ron enjoys seeing them all, we always seem to stay a couple hours at least. He is pretty good he always asks if I am getting tired of all the military, but I am learning lots.

Everywhere we have gone in June the school children are in full force, all doing the year end school trips. Here they were all dressed up getting ready to take part in history.

It was to hard to get a good picture outside so here is a picture of what the fort would have looked like when it was built, it took 7 years 1864 to 1872

Today was warm enough but very hazy, we wonder if it is from some of the forest fires that have been going on in Quebec. The tour guide said is something they very rarely get.
After the fort we drove east on the south side of the river, we went as far as the community where we booked our tickets for an early tour tomorrow of Grosse Ile.

Well my parents arrive tomorrow and we are excited, hope they have a good trip over.
