The city of Quebec

Well we have had quite a day experiencing the city of Quebec. I am sure we walked over 5 miles and thousands of steps, we got the 10 am ferry over and the 8:30pm ferry back to Levis and we are very weary.
We started out by going through the quaint little streets of the Quarter Petit Champlain, from here you could take the Funicular to the top but we did the steps and looked in shops along the way.

Once on top you see the Hotel Frontenac which is quite awesome to see, the hotel is sitting on the piece of land where the first forts were and they are busy uncovering the old fort below, it was known as the Fort Saint Louis. You can actually walk right down within the parts they have found, quite amazing.

We walked around the hotel to the Dufferin Terrace and on to the Governors Promanade of over 300 steps which connects the Dufferin Terrace to the start of the Plains of Abraham.

After touring around here, it was over to the Parliament Buildings which we did not take time to tour inside as we had so many things on our to do list, but they were certainly impressive from the outside.

Heading back inside the walls through the gate to find some lunch before heading to the Citadel.

The streets in Old Quebec, weave this way and that and the traffic does not seem to slow down even for the horse drawn carriages.

We took two tours inside the Citadel, did you know that the Governor General has a residence here as well as in Ottawa. Because she was not in residence we had a wonderful tour and a great tour guide. After the Governors residence we had the tour of the Citadel, I did not know that is still a working military base, the Royal 22nd regiment, only all French speaking regiment.

After our tour here we walked across to the Artillary Park which was very interesting and a huge model of the construction of Quebec through its many stages throughout history. There also was a display of the Officers Quarters and Dauphine Redoubt that was 4 floors and used for many things from the French, during the English and finally once it became Canadian.

We did not have good luck with lunch or supper today, both were poor food and very over priced, but then we found a good place for beaver tails on our way home, maybe we can try one later on in the week.
After dinner we decided to walk up past city hall ,back on the Dufferin Terrace and down to Old Port. Then we walked back along the river walk to the Quarter Petit Champlain and the ferry home.

It was a great day and we are going to know so much history when we get home, this is the way we should have gone to school.
