Mom and Dad C anniversary trip

The weather is cloudy and cool but at least no rain for our second day on our mini trip.
Out on the grounds of the resort we got a few pictures.

Their wedding flowers were wild roses and here they are in front of a bush of wild roses

This afternoon they took us to a little Scandinavian town called Poulsbo.  It had a few cute shops.

And some fabulous bakeries, oh my.....

Clearwater Casino here we come

Rons parents are going to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on May 31, and Ron, Deveta and Julie bought them a ticket to a little mini holiday down to the Clearwater Casino on the Kitsap Peninsula.  Only thing was that they had to put up with our company.

Ron and I left from Summerland as my mom was joining us as well and Eve Barker was up early to take us over to the bus.

Our little bus met the others in Westbank and we were off.  It was a beautiful sunny day but by the time we got to Hope it was pouring but that didn't dampen our spirits.

After our purchases at duty free we crossed the border into the United States and past all the raspberry farms.

Our driver took a little detour and went through the town of Lynden, it was a little Danish town and the yards of the houses were beautifuly kept and the rhodies were in full bloom.  Here is the downtown street of Lynden.

From here we went to the Bellis Fair Mall and some shopped and some had lunch, back on the bus and we headed for Edmonds to catch our ferry over to Kingston.
Here we are pulling away from Edmonds.

I really don't know but this looks like a larger size water taxi shutteling over to Victoria.

Our hotel is lovely and we all have rooms overlooking the ocean.

The grounds are perfectly manicured.

Mom and Dad C were given a suite to celebrate their anniversary, it has a huge king size bed.

A bathtub with TV, etc. , they also got a bottle of champagne.

Ron's family thought that this portrait in our room reminded them of some of their relatives so had to have their picture taken with her.

We all got a free buffet for supper and did a little gambling, I am not sure about Julie but otherwise I think Ron was the only winner.

Hedley and beyond

Clyde and Jane Smith were over for a visit this weekend and so we decided to take a drive to Hedley and do the mine tour.
Upon arrive in Hedley we found a nice chap selling old junk and we had a good talk with him.  He was selling the old car below for a modest 1000 dollars said it was all there but the roof.

Up on the mountain you can still see the remains on the mine where my(Elaine) dad used to work and this was where we had wanted to go. The fellow at the antique store said we should take the drive up the Nickel Plate Road just for the view.
Well we thought we better have some lunch first and found a great restaurant called the Hitching Post, everyone enjoyed their lunch.
Part way up the road suggested to us you come to a spot where you can see down the valley in both directions it was such a beautiful view.

We never got to see the old mine buildings as the gate to the Nickel Plate says Private Property and we thought better of going beyond the gate.  But we did come across and old cemetery which was yes up in the snow, more snow than we have see in years.
It was very well kept and a good fence all around keeping out any animals that might accidently destroy it.
Going over the top we ended up at the Apex Mountain Ski Resort and were very surprised at all the buildings.  Down  the other side put us into a nice green valley and we found a couple sets of Canada Geese.
Out in the middle of the lake was a little island with a picnic table on it, it looked like a nice place to sit but didn't feel like making the swim.
The other set of geese were a little larger in size and quantity.
Very nice day, we did not get to do the mine tour but will go back in the summer when they come back to visit again.
