Death Valley

Here we are on the road again, we just seem to be escaping the bad weather by days so are excited to be where we should not see any fluffy white snow.

First day we travelled from Summerland to Pendleton, when we arrived at the Wild Horse Casino the sun was shining on the mountains, it looked so pretty.

From Pendleton to Winnemucca it was uneventful but got pretty cool during the night.

Next day off early heading for Beatty Nevada, a quick stop at Walker Lake for the driver. It was cool but there were still lots of RV's parked along the lake. We hit heavy winds going between Hawthorn and Tonopah but we arrived in Beatty all in one piece. Parked beside two couples from Duncan BC who are headed to Mexico.

The winds subsided during the night and we had a day planned to visit Death Valley.

Leaving Beatty we see the sign for Rhyolite, an old mining town that once had a population of over 10 thousand people.

Not very much left except some cement foundations

This was the train depot, we would have loved to look inside but it is all fenced off.

Next on toward Death Valley, here is your first view, it looks like lakes down there but not so.

We took a walk out on the dunes, the sand was so soft and beautiful.

Here is Ron at the Old Stovepipe site, the only place there was water.

Our lunch spot the Ubehebe Crater, what a wonderful view.

Now on to our main stop, Scottys Castle, a fascinating story and what a place to find in the desert.

The tour was an hour long and very informative.

Look at the interesting clock.

Looking through the gate.

The swimming pool that was never finished, the tiles are all still sitting in the basement, all had been ordered but the money dried up before it could be finished.

Great day, came home and washed the front of the coach and did a load of laundry, off to Pahrump tomorrow.
