Yesterday we made our way from York Pennsylvania to College Park Maryland, which is a suburb of Washington DC, we had to travel right through Baltimore but the freeway skirts right around and you never even see much of the city.
From the park we can take the bus to the Metro Station and then straight downtown, so today we thought we would go in and do some walking to get ourselves orientated.
When we arrived we found a little sculpture garden and Ron is amazed at what they call art and what they get paid for doing it, but it really was cute.
Ron says this is a silver birch.
Ron says this is a silver birch.
We walked down past the National Art Gallery (will visit later in the week) on down to the US Capital Building, it looked very beautiful sitting at the top of the National Mall.
We went on a free tour, it started with a very good movie and then a tour through a few of the bigger open spaces, this is the inside of the big dome you see on the outside, it is 180 feet high.
Right across the street is the Library of Congress, we took the tunnel right under the street from the Capital Building.
Down the street is the Supreme Court Building, we did not go inside.
Instead we were off to Union Station where we had some lunch, look at the size of Ron's sandwich, he said it was very good and ate every bite.
Inside of Union Station, trains were going off in all directions.
We walked back down the Mall passing the many museums we will visit in the next few days, here is the Smithsonian Castle.
All the tickets for going up in the Washington Monument had been dispersed for the day, we will have to try to get up another day.
