We started out with a drive up to St. Stephens as we knew we would miss it on our trip north tomorrow. A stop at the tourist information gave us a clue that this could be a very good day, he told us the thing to do was to visit the Ganong chocolate museum.. Yes, St. Stephens is the home of Ganong chocolates and they were wonderful.
They started here in 1873 and still are the towns biggest employer, they never left the community that they found their calling.
It was quite exciting we watched the ladies hand dip the chocolates and then package them. The museum was very interesting and there were chocolates laying arond everywhere for the tasting.
It can take five years to become an expert chocolate dipper and that hand with the chocolate covering is so smooth at the end of the day.
St. Stephen is just on the other side of the border with Calais, Maine on the other side of the river.
On our way home we stopped off at Saint Croix Island, this is said to be one of there very first acadian settlement in the area. They put in one winter, starting with 75 men, 23 died of scurvey, they said the winter went from October through to April, heh that sounds like Revelstoke.
When we got home we walked back into Saint Andrew to the National Park with the Blockhouse, it was quite a walk but we had to get rid of that chocolate.
Hi Elaine and Ron,
ReplyDeleteCatching up on your posts and realizing Arnie and I need to take a trip to NB to explore. It has been years since we were in this area and I too, have always wanted to visit Campabello Island.
Safe Journey,
Myleta
PS Had a nice email from Sharon and Larry a couple of days ago.
