Western Brook Pond

Good day everyone, well we did not quite seize up but our bones and muscles were a tad sore.

Correction, I read on my blog that I said there were 44 moose per 4 sq km it should have read 4.4 moose, but that is okay we saw two more today.

Today was our boat trip on Western Brook Pond and we were looking forward to this.

First off we took a drive north and stopped at a few places, Green Point was a campsight and had a nice hike that we talked of taking one day.

Second Stop was at the wreck of the S S Ethie that could not fight off the storm way back on December 11, 1919. All 92 passengers and crew feared for their lives but were saved including a baby that was sent to shore in a mail bag.

Broom Point has a fishing interpetation building that the fellows liked.

So now it was time to head for our boat which leaves at 1pm but it is a 3 km hike into the lake from where the boat leaves. The walk is very gentle and only took us 35 minutes.
The following pictures show the fjord where at the bottom is now what they call Western Brook Pond.

We tried everything to get him to look up but he could care less about us and 100 other tourist being around.

Since we got to the boat a little early we watched the last bunch of tourist get off and got in line so we could get a seat up top, we had the best seats.

The scenery was spectacular, I do not think the pictures do it justice.

Many beautiful waterfalls.

The rocks formations were all so different.

Do you see the old Man in the Mountain?

I looked up the name on the internet and it is claimed as being one of the world more interesting names for a falls, but they think that perhaps it was named by the french and Mare means Pond. It was however wonderful to see it coming right over the top, can you imagine on top of all these mountain are huge flat plateaus where the caribou reside and have their babies.

At the end, if you have the proper park papers, you can get off and do a 4-5 day walk up onto the mountains, maybe not today.

It was a fantastic day, not hot but not cool either, the sky was not blue but it did not rain.

On the ride home we decided to stop in at the Lighthouse close to Rocky Harbour in Lobster Cover, it was cute.

Went to dinner and ice cream, how could the day have been any better. Now we are tucked in ready for bed and the rain we were expecting has started.
