Titus Canyon

A big thank you to our friend Lyle for suggesting we take a drive through Titus Canyon.
We got up early and headed off, the first few miles of bumpy dirt road was pretty boring and we wondered where we were going but then we got into the hills and the scenery turned spectacular.
Below you can see our road way off in the distance.

The rock formations were fantastic.

Around lunch time we came across the ghost town of Leadfield.

From here on in we entered into a narrow absolutely beautiful canyon, we were in awe.
We weaved our way through the rock walls.
You can see the jeep disappearing into the rocks, at times you could not tell where you were going next.

 Always a new view.
And then the canyon ends and Death Valley begins,

This is the exit, the road is one way only and it tooks us about five hours with our wonderful picnic lunch included.

China Ranch

Just because you should always start the season with one of the best date shakes out there we took a drive down to China Ranch.
They have replaced all the decorative skirts around the dates to a white breathable material.
The dates are ready for picking so we had a good taste.

You can see they get a pretty good crop out of one bunch.

The plantation has lots of trees from very old to newer ones.
There are so many varieties and the date shake is made up of mixture of them and let me tell you it was so yummy.

Back in Pahrump

Hurrah we are back in the sun for another year.  We are spending our first week in Pahrump before heading down to Yuma.
Today we went out geocaching on the Wheeler Gauntlet, besides the 71 caches we got today the most interesting things were the animals we saw.
This ugly and not little creature greeted us as we were coming back to the jeep.

Most of the caches were very simple as below, in plain view and not far off the road.

We saw three wild mustangs roaming the desert.
And yes I missed stepping on the snake, thank goodness.
We also saw two rabbits, one big, one little both to fast for the camera, as well as a couple cute little geckos.
The weather is great and we had a great trip down, we are excited to see all our snowbird friends once again.
