The West coast of Vancouver Island

The last two days have been spent on the West Coast of Vancouver Island between Ucluelet and Tofino. The weather turned nasty on us but it did not worry the kids.
We rented wet suits and they became fish for two whole days.
They loved the rough surf.
This beach is right outside out Yurt at Wya Point.

They were very interested in the tidal pools and found a few starfish and aneonomes.

We looked over many beaches but the best one for tidal pools was right at our yurt door.
 They played and played.
We did make time to walk on the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet.
And over to the Amphitrite Lighthouse that turns 100 this year.

Next day over to Long Beach, lots of surfers, and the kids loved the strong waves.

Even with the clouds so dark and the rain falling they still swam for hours.

We found a huge starfish hiding in the rocks

We thought we forgot to take a picture of our yurt but here is an inside shot as Matt is getting zipped into his wet suit for another round.

And until almost dark they played, rolled with the waves, many times I thought they were going to be hurt but came up laughing.

So today it was back to Parksville and we did a little mini golf before going down to the Sandcastle competition. The theme was hero vs villian and they were all great, really hard to judge.

We have had a great mini vacation with Matt and Veronica. Thanks for coming with us.

Last day in Victoria

Oh my goodness what a day we have had.
Our last day in Victoria.

Our hotel is the Huntingdon Manor a piece of the Gatsby Manson.

After breakfast we set off to the Royal BC Museum but on our way stopped off at a couple gardens to gather a couple geocaches, the kids are hooked.

The museum was fabulous, the picture below was taken in the museum, it feels like you belong right in the picture, there are many different scenes, it was wonderful.
Lunch the guys were on their own and behind the museum there was a food truck fair where they found the best pulled pork sandwiches.
Not Veronica and I, we went to the Empress for High Tea, it was amazing, what a treat we had.
Probably a once in a life time event, but I told her now she will have to bring her granddaughter to tea.
After tea it was off to the Parliament Buildings for our tour, very interesting.
Ron and Matt have found themselves a new boat, 75 million to build and the owner died two weeks before taking possession, on sale now for 22 million.
Born of the same cloth, they like the airplanes.
After dinner we took a drive around the seashore, Veronica took this lovely sunset picture.
Here she is playing the piano by the seashore, what fun.
We decided we had to walk back one more time to see the lights on the Parliament Buildings.
Good bye Victoria

Off to the Island with Matt and Veronica

We are off on a little mini vacation with our youngest grandchildren Matthew and Veronica over to Vancouver Island.
First day out we made it as far as the Cultas Lake Waterpark, great fun.

This one was so steep but them both did it. Yikes
On to the Ferry

Great scenery going thru the Gulf Islands
I think they enjoyed their ride
Our hotel is right down town so we could walk everywhere.  First stop Ogden Point Pier.
Matthew found his first geocache, under Helens bench at the end of the pier, and Veronica found hers on the way back, way to go.
 Next onto to Fishermans wharf
Where we shared some of Barbs fish and chips for a snack and then look who is in line for Jacksons Ice Cream.
 A seal was entertaining everyone

Sitting on the steps of the Parliament.
Veronica on the steps and way in the background the guys still sitting on the steps.
The lights at night, well maybe twilight.
